944: Engine Number? [Archive]

I'm drawing a blank today. Where is the engine number on a 944? I need to order some parts and the parts changed midway through 84 (which my engine is).

Hmmm, a 1986? I'd say you are on engine #3 so far... :-)

I don't get it.

My car is an 86 (Chassis, VIN), the motor than went in (the only one :P) is from an 84.

rear of the block, just above the bellhousing, near the base of the oil filler tube ;)
