View Full Version : Remove Dust Plates from Brakes?
Should I remove the dust plates from my brakes? What are the advantages (cooling?), and what are the disadvantages (damage to rotors?). I intend to put 993 air deflectors on the front, but may not receive these until AFTER VIR.

Take them off. If you don't, there's no point to putting on the 993 deflectors (unless you want extra cooling air to the backing plate). I guess the downside is maybe getting water or rocks hitting the back of the rotor. For a mostly track car, take them off.

Buy the damm trailer and take off the stupid dust covers!
Allen H thought he had a serious front end problem at SP. Turned out to be a rock lodged between his dust cover and rotor. Simple procedure if you combine it with repacking or replacing your wheel bearings. Less weight too ;)

Ditch 'em. They have no business on a track car. Their primary purpose was as splash guards driving thru puddles on a street car. The improved air flow for cooling far outweighs anything else on a track car.

What about those dust shields that you put inside the wheels to keep the outside of the wheels clean?

You have a n/a 944 so you shouldn't be using your brakes enough to cause brake dust in the first place!
