Looking for a 964..not concerned with miles but I am looking for proper upgrades and maintenance history. No cabs and no tiptronic!

Looking to spend under $22K

let me know if you have any leads

Thanks!

Chris,
Browse the rennlist 964 forum from time to time and you will see some great examples being sold by enthusiasts. G_luck.

What happened to the 92 in MD you mentioned on Pelican? Are you looking for a C2 or C4? There is 90 C2 with 89K miles at a dealer near Richmond that a couple of guys on this board checked out for me (did a fantastic job). IIRC, the asking price was $18-19K. We agreed that it is a $15-16K car with the fixed needed. There are cars in similar shape closer to me (I am in NJ) and the CEO/CFO said it s not worth the hassel.

Thanks guys....yeah I should have probably pulled the trigger on the '92 in MD but at the time I was going back and forth between a carrera or a 964. I figured I could find a really nice carrera in my price range. But as I have done more research and such a more modern porsche would probably suit me best in the long run. This would be my DD (although I don't commute).... I called on Friday and the '92 was sold ;( Oh well I figure my car is still out there somewhere

I definitely skim the Pelican and Rennlist forum daily

I hate dealing and purchasing from dealers...just had so many shady experiences with dealers.

Here are I few I found within 300 miles of you. Skip the dealer ads and look at the private sellers--two white ones and a red one.

Autotrader finds... (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?mod_bookmark_id=null&advanced=y&bkms=1153749404447&num_records=&certified=&isp=y&search=y&lang=en&search_type=used&body_style=COUPE&make=POR&model=911&make2=sel_one&start_year=1989&end_year=1992&min_price=17000&max_price=23000&only_price=1&max_mileage=&distance=300&address=22301&engine=&fuel=&drive=&transmission=Manual&doors=&color=&x=82&y=11) two 1990's and a '92.

I agree you should avoid dealers at all costs as they will just waste your time.

Another good idea is to spend $40 and join PCA. That allows you to search their database of 911 classifieds

88 Carrera...thanks for tip on joining the PCA...I check out the "founders region" because its local...and because you can peruse the ads for free...but joining the national is definitely a smart idea.

For what its worth...the '90 in PA has been sold (i called 2 days ago) and the '92 in lutherville MD/Parkton MD was the one I was interested in initially has been sold as well

A day late and a $ short I guess

The '90 in cleveland is also posted on Rennlist, might be worth looking into that further. I don't mind taking a short flight and nice drive back home

Check out Auto Technik in Pennington, NJ. They usually have a decent inventory.

Rick- Thats funny that you mention them...I have seen and checked out their inventory many times over the last 6 months or so online. I could never find out any feedback on them though

Have you ever delt with them before? Is it a reputable shop?

Thanks for your help

Chris

I haven't really dealt with them since before I bought my first 911. But I spoke with Don and Larry there a few times before that. Pretty sure they go over their cars before they sell them. I remember one Carrera I was looking at where Don said they had just replaced the synchros because they thought they felt tired. Car sold before I could test drive it. But they do their own service work and they are enthusiasts too. You won't find some guy there whose last job was selling Kia's.

I think DougE here has some experience with them too.

I appreciate the info

I'm a total NOOB when it comes to these cars...just trying to do my homework, and make the best decision possible.

I was trying to do some searches throught the Rennlist forum....couldn't find much

God I love working from home!!!

Buying your first one can be a real lesson. My Carrera taught me a lot of hard lessons. But the best you can afford. Somehow, Auto Technik tends to have a lot of 964's. There's a guy on this board, Scott Devine who has a sweet red 964 that is sometimes for sale.

For a car that was pissed on by BA for years, they sure do sell fast and alot of people sure do want them :-). Andy

There's a black 1990(?) 964 at Chantilly Jaguar-Land/Range Rover. About 85K miles.. asking $18,800.

I am about 10 miles from Autotechnik and can check out a car there for you if you like. BTW, I have no affiliation with them and do not use them.

FWIW, I think they ask premium price for cars that are not necessarily premium. However, there is a 89 C4 there that suppose to have had a total reseal at the 60K mile service that I may look at. The asking price is $22K which is high for a 89 C4 IMO.

Chris...i happen to be near the black coupe in chantilly so stopped in for a drive. I was pleasantly surprised as it was the first of the 964 i have driven. Black 80+ K miles, with a few minor issues on the bumper and the hood, but nothing major, and they indicated the intent to repair after the car was sold. Second owner just traded it in for a larger Merc SUV and the dealership has had it for just under a week. Car had the clutch changed at 50K and has new brakes. Car has been serviced at Auto Therapy in Rockville. Apparantly they have a guy from out of town who intended to fly and and buy...but that could just be sales pitch. Car drove well, shifted fine, brakes and steering were tight. Didnt appear to be any major oil dripping, though you could see a few shiny areas. The car also has a cover under the engine so couldnt really get a look at the engine from underneath. Pulled well 1st -third and I didnt really get on it after that. AC will require a recharge. Interior was excellent condition. They told they hadnt actually detailed it yet, and it was already spotless.

While I am not a big fan of dealerships, If you are looking at a 90-94 C2, this might be a car you should go look at. I stabbed at getting a price that might have been recievd for the trade in (and was confirmed it was in the high 14's and the dealer indicated a desire to sell to make his numbers by tomorrow so was willing to take a good offer. I must admit I enjoyed driving the car and could have kept going. I would consider buying it myself, but dont think the wife will allow another for now...Hope that helps in case you didnt get a chance to see it yourself this weekend...tito

I got as close as driving by the dealership afterwork but they were closed. I figured if they were asking 18+, they likely only gave 15-16 in trade. wow.. even if it needs "some" work, 17 for a 964 seems like a smoking good deal!
