For anyone that has AAA and frequents SP, I highly recommend you go with the Plus membership since the first 100 miles of a tow are free (there are other benefits as well but I can't remember what they are right now).

Unfortunately last week at SP when I had the mechanical problem I discovered I only had the Basic membership which covered the first 3 miles Luckily the driver was an SP regular so he cut me a break on the mileage but it still wound up costing me $90 to get the car home. As an aside, the actual mileage from SP to Herndon is right around 55 miles so if I had the Plus plan it would have been free

From a cost standpoint the Basic is $85 while the Plus is $122 so the $37 difference is well worth it considering that the 100 mile radius from SP would get those of us here in NoVa home.

Obviously I have upgraded my plan now

Check with your insurance company on tow coverage as well. State Farm covered me once for a pretty good tow bill.
