Hilton Garden though last time we stayed at the Hampton South. $55/night from hotels.com

I'm looking to save money this time around. How was the Hilton Garden? How about the surrounding neighborhood? Was it anywhere near the track?

Hilton Gardens is up scale from Hampton. Nice restaurant off lobby. Located off 50 near the mall. Nice neighborhood, with plenty of places to eat nearby. There’s a place behind the steak house off 50 that’s has always been less expensive. Interwebs seems the best way to find good prices. L commented that the prices seem higher this month than others.

Is VIR north, south, east, or west of Danville? There are a couple of places for $45 but I want to be nearer the track.

VIR is east-southeast of Danville, near the town of Milton, N.C. IMO, there's little difference in distance from the track regardless of where you stay, unless it's in South Boston, Va. The Sleep Inn is actually the closest (10-15 minutes). There's no hotel that much closer to the track than any other (except for staying AT the track). Maybe 5 minutes difference.

I have always stayed at the Fairfield Inn (off 50 in Winchester). There now is a Residence Inn near the mall on 7 just before you get to I-81. Wife noticed a W Loft accross from the Mexican resturant on 50. Brand new. We will be staying there for PF.
