On my way to Fitzgerald Cadillac in Frederick (hate their service department... long story) I saw a stunning red '84-'88 red Carrera Targa heading southbound on 270, from around Monty Village to exiting at Montrose. It looked like it was in perfect condition.

What was THIS guy thinking???? December 7th - at 822am, driving South on Connecticut Avenue near Chevy Chase Circle. Notice the snow....it was a balmy 30 degrees that day.

Is it against the rules to drive a Porsche when it's 30 degrees out? Do they not work in that kind of weather?

this guy embodies everything i like. it's not a cream puff. it's a car! stop being a sissy, pull your panties out of a bunch and drive the thing. i'm certain that no one in germany in the 70's-80's woke up, looked outside the window and said: oh nein. vee kan't drive zee car. ze weather is cold. i better take zee bus or start valking to work now.
i'm sure he has his heater and seat warmers on, but the windows are down so that's a plus!

I have to jump in on the Boxster.
Do any of you have those strangers you find yourself running into or noticing, on a regular basis, at different times/locations/etc.? In a way that is freaky, that makes you wonder if they are following you?
I live right on Connecticut Ave in Woodley Park. For the past month or two, I've seen this guy probably twice a week on average while walking the two blocks from my apartment to the Metro. Sometimes when I'm leaving late for work, like last Friday, when I saw him with the top down when it was freezing out. Sometimes when I'm leaving early for work, still notice the car. Always with the top down, unless it is raining.
Whoever this guy is, he bought a convertible for a reason, and he's gonna use it. Cold weather be damned.

I took the 996 out tonight to take my son to his tutor's. Ahh, it was nice to get her out of the garage!
Question- my car now has some foreign substance on it. It covers the paint, somewhat dulling the finish and hiding the color. Could it be (gasp)... dirt???

LOL, I took my taillights out yesterday (yeah, I had nothing else to do) and I was amazed at how much dirt was up in there. Must be 5 pounds caked on the back of the lights.

I figure that with the weight drop and cleaner air entering the radiators, I gained at lease 0.00459 of a second per lap at VIR! ;)

This evening on 66. Gold early 944 with a "beat up" nose. What looked like a rollbar or harness brace behind the seats. PCA sticker on the window and fully blacked out wheels. Coudn't tell if they were cookies or murdered out fuchs. Older guy (than me!) driving.

A festival of Porsches!! On my daily 6-mile walk Friday, I spotted six P-cars and oddly enough, all within a quarter-mile of each other although not at the same time. First: dark grey Carrera cabriolet with dark top southbound on Fairfax County Parkway at Route 123 about 9:15. 30 minutes later, 996 (or 997) Turbo 911, silver, on Fournier Drive, followed closely within minutes by seeing a white 944 parked in a driveway on Fournier, followed almost immediately by a Boxster driving by the front of that house. 30 minutes later, around 10:15, back at the intersection of Route 123 and Ffx Cty Parkway, a red Boxster southbound on 123 and a silver 996 or 997 Carrera S northbound on 123 turning onto southbound Ffx Cty Parkway. I didn't see another p-car the rest of the day.

Well, I just had the opposite experience. Thursday, my wife and I and a German Shepherd and Standard Poodle (I know, I know, it is an odd combo) headed out in the Cayenne to DRIVE to Kansas City (our son and daughter live there). After spending the night in Louisville, my wife mentions that on the first day, she saw no other Cayennes or even any other Porsches. I told her I had not seen any either.
Finally while passing through Columbia, Missouri (where we both went to school), I passed a Cayenne (same color as ours). After 1088 miles, that was the only Porsche we saw.
I just thought it was weird.....:?

Not guilty!!!
The Ferrari driver got the smackdown for 89. The Viper had fortunately just passed me...er...the guy in the Boxsera so it was too confusing for the trooper to figure out. The Viper and I...er...the Boxsera were free to go.
Also, the trooper happens to have a sign business on the side. If any of you need lettering for your car, I...er ummm...I mean...the Boxsera driver can put you in touch with the trooper.:lol: Personally, I think a nice set of magnetic numbers for both sides, the hood, and the trunk would be an appropriate order.

As I reported earlier in this thread, I drove from Alexandria to Kansas City before Christmas (I took two days). The only Porsche I saw driving to KC was a fellow Cayenne in Columbia, MO. Interestingly in the entire time I was in KC (almost two weeks) and for the entire trip back to Alexandria, I saw no other Porsches. I just found that a bit odd.
It probably didn't help that it snowed while I was in KC and was damn cold the entire two weeks and then was very cold the first day driving back and snowy the second day. I guess the midwest has a bunch of fair-weather drivers......

Counted over 20 Porsche sightings in two hours of highway driving in Wales - and there wasn't some kind of parade going on. I was there a week and saw multiple Porsches everyday (not even counting Cayennes). Of course London was nice too. Bentleys litter the streets. Saw the new Audi, several Lambos, Mazaratti's and Ferraris. Interestingly most of the time the cars were rather new. But on the rainiest, hailing day of the trip I saw several circa 80 Porsches and Ferraris out and about. (By the way, I was driving a loaded VW van )

Think I saw Rick K and a bunch of others coming home from Summit this afternoon.
Quite likely. I took the toll road to 66 into Arlington.
Spotted in G'town on Tattershall Dr: Gold 911 Carrera Targa. I understand this car has not been spotted since September, but was looking sweet with serious negative camber (finally able to be aligned properly). There will be repeated serious thanks to Jack at Europros for keeping his word and fixing the bent and incorrectly repaired frame (from before I bought it 10 years ago) at basically the price he originally quoted, despite needing significantly more work than originally believed. This is the first of many public thanks to Jack and Europros.
Let me also thank Matt De Maria again - every time that car starts, after 5 years of never knowing.
Finally, thanks to Jazz. Little electrical problem tonight and Jazz dropped everything to fix it before heading to the track tomorrow morning. If my car is faster, and it will be, some will be due to the correct alignment, but perhaps a bit due to the little secret Chris installed in the car :D.

white 964 heading west on Collingwood from GWP ~5:45 last night.
Black 911 Cab (looked to be 964 or older) heading South on Rt. 15 yesterday around 3:30. The dog and I were heading North in the 944.
Also, on Friday, I saw a red 944 S2 Cab on 66 East between the parkway and 50. The lady behind the wheel was getting ready to have a little chat with one of VA's finest.

Red Ferrari 246 Dino in Middletown, Md. at 3:00 pm. Oldie but a goodie. Had a chance to buy a yellow one in the late '70's for $11,000, but bought a '74 911S instead. Probably should have bought it. Wonder what it's worth now.

It was early 80s for me for the same car down in NC. You really don't want to know what it's worth. :bang:
Nevertheless, it would have been a terrible car for me at the time. I was too young and I learned more in the Toyota race car I built than I would have driving a 246.

I read an article in Hemmings stating that the Spitfire was one of the easiest cars to restore. Everything bolts together - minimal welding or none at all IIRC. Lots of vendors, part availability, and not very expensive. So who needs a new project???
I already have my own project. I took the more difficult route with my Karmann Ghia. Aside from the doors, hood, and trunk, the body is one piece. And I don't have welding skillz...

Today White 993 and one of the old King Rat (Blue over Black) 944s at the Sheetz in Gainsville. I think the 944 is owned by one of the guys in the Audi club. Must have been on the way back from the event.

Curious who owns the big dark colored Chevy pickup work truck, with the industrial topper, with the Porsche, Summit Point, VIR, etc. stickers on the window of the topper's rear door. Spotted heading into DC on Canal Road at about 6:20AM this morning. I'm guessing its someone's tow vehicle. :D
