One the world’s most prestigious production car records was obliterated on 28 September 2005 by Michael Vergers in Radical’s extraordinary SR8. In road legal trim and riding on Dunlop Direnza tyres he lapped the infamous 13-mile Nordschleife circuit in just 6 minutes 55 seconds, knocking a massive 20 seconds off the previous best!
The video is at www.TrackVision.net/videos/radicalringrecord.mpeg (http://www.trackvision.net/videos/radicalringrecord.mpeg)

The Radical SR8 is powered by a 2.6-litre high-revving V8 engine, built in-house by Powertec, developing 360bhp. It generates enough downforce to be able to theoretically drive upside down and holds the outright lap record at Cadwell Park (the UK’s mini-Nurburgring) and has been winning sportscar races around the world since the launch in January this year.

Damn, that's impressive ... I can almost get that time in an Audi R8 on GT4 ;)
Anything special that needs to be done to view the video? I tried to download it but couldn't see anything. Even with DSL the message "downloading" was displayed in the lower right corner for just about 5 minutes then it said "done" but no video appeared.
BTW, IIRC my brother caught a few pax laps in a Radical on one of his prior trips to the 'Ring. I'll ask him about it next time I talk to him.

OK, that worked ... thanks Tony and Chris.
Couple of comments after watching the video:
1) awesome driving (obviously)
2) the scenery/graphics in GT4 is so realistic it is scary
3) he was on a closed track b/c the usual entrance from the Grune Holle wasn't there when he went by on the main straight
4) thinking he was on a closed track, what was that lone MB doing out there that he passed ???
5) he caught no air at Flugplatz and it sounded like he barely lifted ... each time I went over that hump it felt like the damn car was gonna take off. Great driving to keep it so planted.
6) interesting that he lifted so much going through the carousel
7) jesus do I want to go back there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing Tony ... given the pending weather this weekend looks like I'm going to be leaving the driving simulator in front of the TV and turning some serious laps on GT4 :)

Obviously a great car and good driving. But, if this is a production street car, then I'm a professional race car driver.

Well, yes. Its a production model, in low volumes compared to any Porsche or BMW model, and is primarily designed as a track car. However, it can be purchased in fully street legal trim and registered fr the street in the UK and certain other Euro countries. A decent little daily driver. No excuses for being late!

For impractical street cars I prefer the Dauer 962 LeMans. It's USA street legal, the wind doesn't muss my hair, and the CD and A/C are standard. And it also comes with a winning endurance racing heritage at no extra cost.

Hmmmm.... lets do the math. How many Radical SR8s could you buy for the price of a Dauer 962? Is it two or three?
Just as a point of interest, A guy who actually raced a 962 back in the day calculated that his actual cost of operation, after amortising the cost of off season rebuilds, transport, track support, etc, was around $8,000 per hour of track time.

Sounds about right especially after going over the receipts for the last couple of years with Linda.
That's a cool video. He's going, like, at least a 100 miles per hour.
