Every year I get the flu shot. And every year I get the flu. Apparently the shot only covers one strain of the flu virus. Well boy did they guess wrong on this years flu shot. I've been sick since Monday with temps ranging from 101 to a whopping 105.8. (6 pack of ????? for anybody who can beat that one  )
I've tried all of the usual over the counter stuff. Any of you Dorki have any old family backwoods remodies to get rid of this God awful maledy? Say, rattling chicken bones over a goat carcas, Or sacraficing a virgin to a volcano to upeas the Flu God. (Don't worry Pari, we won't sacrafice you because we need you at the track to rag on  )
It's now day 4 and I'm sick of being sick. Short of using a BFH on my forehead I'll take any advice. Tylonol just ain't cuttin' it.
Happy motoring!

Try any cam 2? That seems to kill most things

Folk lore from the backwoods of CT say that lending your car to a friend for a weekend of abuse is a sure fire way to beat the flu. Let me know when to drop by.

I figured since Brake Kleen didn't work, I'd save the Cam2 for the track.

Zicam
http://www.zicam.com/site/products/cold_flash.html
It has 5000% of of daily recommended zinc and mucho other stuff.
Anne used it at first sign of a cold, was done in 2 days rather than her usual week. Don't know if it'll help since you flu is full blown now. I was amazed.

I have no experience with this method, but I have heard that being anally sodomized is a sure-fire cure. Try it and let us know!

Hang in there Ted, I know how you feel. Both Jessica and I are just recovering from the same thing. Fever stayed up in the same ballpark for about 4 days. Haven't been this sick since grade school. Alternating between advil and tylenol every 3 hours did the trick for us.
Hopefully you'll get better before sunday!

I have two tattoos on my a$$. On one cheek it says "EXIT" on the other it says "ONLY". Sorry Dan, looks like date night is off for us on Saturday night............unless you'd like to wear Pari's blonde wig.

Well, it was worth a try. But if I get the flu, you'll be the first to know.

man do I feel for you.... I just recovered from this and it lasted 12 days... lots of soup, juice, etc.
sweat it out too... they say "feed a cold, starve a fever" but how you're supposed to take medicine on an empty stomach is beyond me
after all the flu/cold medicine wasn't working, I started a 5 day sequence of antibiotics and it seemed to help... plus plenty of zinc and 1000mg of Vit C pills
good luck. I promised myself I'll pamper myself until SP so that I don't miss it. Hopefully you'll come out of it by Wed and can have a few days to recover for the weekend.

In all seriousness, if your temp gets above 104 again, you should see a doctor ASAP. Those high temps fry your brain. Drink lots and lots of liquid. I second the Zicam idea also; has always helped my family. doesn't cure anything but it surely shortens the duration.

Amen on seeing a doctor right away if you get a high temperature! In 2003, during Hurricane Isabel, I came down with almost 104. My wife called our doctor, and he told her to take me to the ER. Bottom line, I didn't come out of the hospital for 2 weeks (infected abdominal cyst). Missed the race at SP over it too.

I second the ER recommendation when you have a high fever. Last time I had a fever over 104, my appendix burst. It took surgery + 5 days of super powerful IV antibiotics to get me (barely) back on my feet.
Pipes... my wife (who is a licensed witch doctor, and the poster child for this emoticon -->) recommends Oscillococcinum (http://www.ehealthland.com/Oscillococcinum.asp). I started getting sick a few weeks back and took this stuff for two days and was then better... may be coincidence or maybe it worked?

105.8--that's way too high. You have what my son has had for a week. He was up around 105. He's on the mend but he looks like he lost five pounds. That's a lot when you only weigh 40 to begin with. I felt like I was getting it today so I'm taking the Oscillistuff. It really works. You have to take it when you're first starting to feel sick.

Not to hijack the thread, but my appendix burst back in 2000 and i never did have a temperature, just a continuing mild ache in my side (actually started in the middle of my abdomen). Also meant surgery for me and five days in the hospital with powerful antibiotics (missed almost 3 weeks of work). Just to underscore that a really high fever or even severe stomach pains always indicate an appendix problem.

I got a virus a couple of weeks ago. The tested to see it if was flu by sticking a q-tip up my nose and touching my brain. It wasn't the flu and only lasted 3-4 days. I missed 3 days of work my my last 2 weeks on the job. I was freaking miserable - too sick to watch TV or surf the internet. If it was the flu they could have given me this medicine... :(
Hope you feel better. I'll take your car to tech if you need me to :)

Ted,
My wife was in the ER for 3 days in January with the same...don't wait till it's unbearable before going to the ER, cause when you get there you're gonna have to wait in line. The hospitals are flooded with flu cases.
For her, they just hooked her up to an IV to make sure her vitals were stable. Those 103+ temps can wreck havoc on your system.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thanks for all the kind words and good advise. (no Dan, not yours  ) I woke up from a nap not too long ago in a pool of sweat. Checked the temp and it's at 99.2. :D :D :D I feel really weak though. My Doc put me on a Z-pak and some Codine cough syrup. I'm just going to take it easy for the next few days and get ready for the DE. I still need to do pads and rotors all around on the Pipes before the event. Charlie said he'd come by and help with that next week. The Doc said this funk has been going around for the past month or so and that it lasts for more than a week. Let's hope I'm the exception there. See you all in the Dorki Ghetto at SP.

Ted, if you come to the tech session on Sat., I can bring you some good $hit I bought in Hong Kong. It's Australian and works pretty well, called Logicin. I can also do your brakes next week. Don't worry about that. With one or two helpers, we can knock it out in no time and you can sleep. Or come trade cars with me and I'll knock it out here.

A word of warning on ZICAM - if you use it, do not use the nasal
gel. It may destroy your olfactory receptors and rob you of
your sense of smell. Apparently, its due to the use of zinc salts.
It is a homeopathic product and is not required to pass 'any'
FDA testing, according to my attorneys. E caveat emptor.
Hope you shake the flu soon if its not already gone.

Emery, thanks for the good info. I've been feeling better since late Friday. I'm still not 100% yet though. I'll be glad when I'm done with this run of antibiotics. It feels like someone's staging a Jihad in my lower intestines. :(
Hope you feeling better Ted.
My mother has caught the flu for the season also and she's feeling like crap with temps exceeding 100.
