Does anyone have a trackmap of the new Shenandoah Circuit? Just wondering, since the new track scheds are coming out...want to know the best place to watch. I'm not letting my ameture butt drive that course, looks tight.

Yeah, I've heard its not really for the track n00b (i.e me). I saw it on the schedule - I guess PCA has approved it for DEs? I remember hearing there was some controversy.

Am I correct in asssuming the thick black lines paralleling the track in many places are concrete barriers?

I think those are barriers. I've seen video (perhaps even posted on this board) that showed the track to be very tight, not a lot of straights (for passing) and, well, barriers not too far away either. I'm holding judgement on how good a DE course this will be.

Potomac will be using this track this year. A group of Potomac instrructors spent a day driving it (I had to work that day  ) From the inital reports many of the original worries about the track seem to be unfounded. This not to sat that it is without problems but I think folks will like it after we figure out how to instruct on it without puking.

No - Those are not even close to being representative of all the barriers. Perhaps those are the ones that are poured in place. Most of the rest of the track is lined with 'Jersey' walls. Driving the track in someone else's car is fun. Track should be a lot of fun in a low powered car with big brakes.

Unless that map has been updated and concrete barriers have ben removed, there is as Alan said a lot more jersey barrier and some poured stuff. I drove it at a Bill scott instructors day in their Crown Vics. A real blast in someone elses car. I think it will be a very good track for learning how to drive well, late apex etc. Really good for anyone who has a little experience to red run group will learn from it. Instructing is going to be interesting and barf bags may be required as it is very busy, very little passing opportunities so slow drivers will really have to watch their mirrors and help faster cars by. Smooth accurate driving in lower powered cars will really have a blast passing some of the high H.P. stuff, way to go Kurt :P I would recommend anyone who is serious about learning to drive well, do this track and treat it with a healthy dose of respect and 60-70% of potential speed and they will have a great learning experience.

As I said before, it looks like the mother of all shifter kart tracks. Does anyone know if they will have events for karts at the Shenandoah circuit?

This clip is a relatively slow lap that gives you plenty of time to admire the Portland hedges growing beside most of the track.

Hmmm, sounds like an endorsement for my car (maybe 95hp and brembo brakes)!
I'm sure Kurt will love driving the 912 at it also.
I might check out the first DE from the sidelines or via the web postings and make a decision. Thanks for all the info.

Thanks for posting this. I havent read any new impressions of the track. Seeing a wall 75' back looks like a good thing, is this where a few incidents ocurred?
I'm looking forward to seeing a DE at this track, not sure I want to drive in one though.

BSR has a few 'Seat Time' events scheduled on the Shen this year. I was thinking about doing one just to be able to drive this track before I move away. Being that their 'Seat Time' events are uninstructed, I don't want to 'learn' the track on my own. Maybe a call to BSR is in order.......
Anyway, my point here was anyone interested in doing a 'Seat Time' event in June or July? I'll get the details if anyone is interested.

I have driven the "old" version a few times w/ BSR for instructors and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Where I would give VIR a 10 and SPR an 8, I would give this a 7 prior to these changes. Hopefully this helped and I think it will especially removing those tight, tight, S's...and moving some of the walls back.
I love Seat Times and was at the one at SPR this past Thursday. Five sessions and since they do not book up, you can just decide whether or not you want to go that morning (weather). There is a FATT at the Shenandoah this Friday, which I would usually attend, but cannot due to work.

Thanks for the heads up on Seat Time. I always thought it was too pricey for 1 day, but didnt realize there were 5 sessions. How long are the run sessions? I couldnt find any details on the site, are run groups similar to other events? It seems Seat Time is an extension of FATT, do you know if you NEED to get signed off via FATT first, or do they accept us PCA guys too?
Here is the schedule for those interested:
SEAT TIME
Cost: $200.00
MAR 31

With the PCA probably being the best track time for the money, Seat Times are expensive, but more convenient (IMO). You have to be signed off solo for Group 2 (out of 2) at FATT. This is probably the equivalent of White. Seat Times take place before race weekends, usually SCCA and exist primarily for race cars. However, street cars are allowed and have their own session. Usually there are two race car groups and one for street cars. I went to Seat Times before becoming a BSR instructor, but do more often now as they are “free” after instructing two FATTs. Seat Times are great because you do not need to pre-register and if it is raining you can just stay home (unless you want the challenge!). Also, it is self-tech, so there is no pre-tech needed, as it is assumed that if you are driving the Seat Time that you are aware of your car’s condition. I think most of the sessions are 20 mins., but a few are 25. If you called the BSR office and told them your experience, they may let you on w/o the FATT sign off, but not sure.

If you run in the white group or higher with PCA, Paul Amico, the Chief Instrustor can send an email to BSR and they'll let you run Seat Time no problem. Just send him a note with your request. PCA/BSR have always had a good relationship.

Good info Betty, I've had my eye on "Seat Time" for awhile, but figured I'd have to do multiple FATT events to become qualified. might be a good way to stay faster than Deb :?
