I haven't worked on one but I do have a set of 996 workshop manuals and a copy of PET if you want to come by and do some research.

If your out there, can I still take you up on that offer?
I have a recurring problem with a limit switch in the soft-top of my 996, and need to look at the manual to find out about it. The top goes part of the way, but not all the way up. It's becoming a PITA... I have the hardtop on now (probably for the winter) so there's no rush. Wanna fix this new-fangled thing myself... :shock:
